Cave Dweller Dugout Dick
During a road trip...
we met Dugout Dick...
Dugout Dick had been a prospector for copper in the 1920’s along the Salmon River in Idaho. He was a very progressive and free thinking inventor and started living in the caves looking onto the river view. In the 60’s he was using sun powered solar batteries to power his lighting and farming organic vegetables for his food.
As I made this portrait his loyal goat pulled at my jeans seeking attention. Dick’s full name was Richard Zimmerman, he was an American legend and it was a privilege to meet such a unique individual.
